January - Things to do

As the New Year brings a fresh beginning, start as you mean to go on and keep on top of those jobs like weeding and pruning. You can also start sowing tomatoes, chillies and onions seeds indoors for planting out later. Find out what else you can do this month

Fruit and vegetables

It’s a great time to plant bare-root fruit bushes or canes like raspberries. Cover the ground with polythene to keep it warm and dry before digging and never plant into frozen ground.

Ornamental garden

Keep weeding. Perennial weeds will be putting their energy into growing their roots through winter, making them even more difficult to remove come spring. Get to them early and save yourself the extra work later.
