Question: Just about to start work on the allotment
We managed to get an allotment last year and are just about to start work, any advice, tips, general info would be of great help. Hoping to look at growing a variety of vegetables/fruit and thinking of raised beds...
Raised beds are a wonderful idea for a handful of reasons. They're great because they allow the soil to drain better than in-ground gardens, you can walk around your garden without stepping on plants or compacting soil and finally, you can control the soil nutrients more efficiently. Raised beds are said to increase your harvest by 50%-100%.
Look for great info on this forum under Beginner's Advice as well as Planning & Getting Started. Best of luck with you garden and make sure to check in time to time and tell us how you're doing!
