The Chelsea Flower Show opens today and we would love to hear your thoughts on what you liked or didn’t like on some of the garden designs there?
If you were not so lucky to get tickets, the gardens will be aired on BBC2 on the 23rd and 24th May at 8:00pm, 25th at 8:30pm, 26th and 27th at 8:00pm and 28th at 7:30pm.
Well I loved the Homebase garden (of course) I think it was much more about the plants this year when other years its been about hard landscaping - pale mauves and whites were quite a theme this year and iris siberica is always a strong shape
And of course I loved my dwarf foxglove seeds, perfect choice as they can be sown now, and the 20% voucher will be put to good use!
Wonderful day at Chelsea yesterday basking in the sunshine - all the gardens looked great. Wasn't too sure about the Best in Show though - the 'hole' in the middle of it left me a bit cold and I didn't think the mix of modern and old theme really came off.
I also thought a lot of the other main show gardens didn't really function as 'gardens' in the same way as they have in previous shows - you didn't get the feeling that you could walk through them, sit in them or actually feel comfortable in them. The British Heart Foundation garden made me feel positively uncomfortable and squeamish!
I did think the Homebase garden was an exception though - on such a hot day, that gorgeous deep pool looked really tempting and I was just itching to wiggle my toes in the rivulets/rills - they did a really good job of looking like beach streams without a grain of sand in sight. And I liked the fact that the planting was a bit different - no alliums and salvias, not that I've got anything against them (they're in my own garden), but there were rather a lot of them at the show.
All fantastic though - Chelsea is such a unique and magical place, I always leave reluctantly at the end of the day

Glad you had a good day - I loved the "seaweed" around the edge of the pond, a nice change from the straight sterile lines we often see
